Importance of Sundarkand Paath for Overcoming Hardships

Why Sundarkand Holds Supreme Importance

Sundarkand is the fifth chapter of the Shri Ramcharitmanas, centered on Lord Hanuman’s heroic journey to Lanka. Recitation of Sundarkand infuses the devotee with courage, removes fears of evil eyes or planetary doshas, and brings peace to troubled minds.

The chapter is called "Sundar" (auspicious/beautiful) because it narrates the turning point of the Ramayana — the discovery of Sita ji, Hanuman ji’s leap across the ocean, his victory over the guardians of Lanka, and the reassurance that rescue is certain. For the devotee, each story segment functions as a mantra: courage when facing obstacles, hope when the goal feels unreachable, and the certainty that divine protection already surrounds you.

Spiritual and Temporal Benefits of Regular Recitation

Traditional practice attributes these benefits to steady Sundarkand paath: removal of fear and anxiety, especially fear of enemies, litigation, and unseen negativity; calming of an agitated mind, aiding concentration in studies and business; protection from evil eye (nazar), black magic influences, and malefic planetary transits; removal of obstacles in marriage proposals, career moves, and court or official matters; and relief in periods of Sade Sati, Rahu-Mahadasha or Kaal Sarp Dosha, where the paath serves as a powerful karmic cleanser.

Many astrologers also prescribe Sundarkand as the remedy for a strong but afflicted Mars — the planet of courage and competition — because Hanuman ji is the embodiment of Mars energy in its purest, disciplined form. The combination of the paath with Mars-related discipline (physical routine, service) pacifies Mangal doshas far more effectively than fear-based gemstone advice.

How to Recite Sundarkand Correctly

Choose a fixed time — early morning after bathing is best, or evening before the diya. Sit facing East or North, on a clean seat. Begin with a short sankalp (intention) stating the purpose: "I perform this paath for the welfare of my family / for the removal of the obstacle of ___."

Worship Hanuman ji first with a small tilak and a flower, then read the Sundarkand text aloud in a steady voice, completing at least one full chapter for a "paath." The full Sundarkand in the Ramcharitmanas runs roughly 60 dohas and chaupais manageable in about 45–60 minutes; those with less time can do the Hanuman Chalisa with the same sankalp and intention. For mantra-level practice, many devotees add the samput of "Shri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram" 108 times, spoken slowly with devotion.

Saturdays and Tuesdays are especially recommended for Sundarkand and Hanuman-jaap. Keep the place clean, avoid doing the paath in a room with inauspicious activity, and offer prasad of bananas or a simple sweet at the end for distribution.

Sundarkand Paath at Shri Hariom Foundation

The Foundation conducts Sundarkand Paath and Hanuman Chalisa sessions with proper vidhi, led by our acharyas, at homes or at our venue, and on request during Navagraha Shanti or Graha Shanti ceremonies. During Vedic puja and karmakand services, Pandit Acharya Rajiv Ratan Dwivedi (Head Brahmin Pandit, 15+ years of karmakand practice) performs the paath count and rituals with shastriya discipline, so families receive both the spiritual benefit and the structured ceremony.

To arrange a Sundarkand Paath, or to combine it with a Graha Shanti or Hanuman Chalisa regimen for a specific dosha, book a ceremony with our coordination team across Delhi NCR.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which day is best for Sundarkand paath?

Tuesdays and Saturdays are considered the most favourable for Sundarkand and Hanuman Chalisa recitation, though a daily morning paath is ideal for sustained benefit.

Can Sundarkand remove Mangal dosha?

Sundarkand is traditionally prescribed to pacify afflicted Mars energy because Hanuman ji embodies disciplined Mars. Combined with a chart-aware remedy plan, it is highly effective — but only a full reading confirms whether Mangal dosha is actually active.

How long does the full Sundarkand take?

A complete Sundarkand recitation from the Ramcharitmanas takes roughly 45–60 minutes in a steady, unhurried voice; shorter versions with the same intention and the Hanuman Chalisa are also beneficial.
