Solar Eclipse 2026: Impact on 12 Zodiac Signs & Precautions

Astrological Dimensions of Surya Grahan

A Solar Eclipse occurs when Rahu or Ketu aligns between the Earth and Sun. In Vedic philosophy, an eclipse is a potent period for meditation, mantra chanting, and daan (charity), as the spiritual power of prayers is magnified manifold during eclipse hours. It is also a period when the Sun — the soul, authority and vitality — is temporarily "hidden," which is why classical texts advise restraint, prayer, and pause rather than initiation.

In 2026 there are two solar eclipses: an annular solar eclipse on February 17, 2026 falling in the Kumbha (Aquarius) region, and a total solar eclipse on August 12, 2026 falling in the Simha (Leo) region. The August eclipse will sweep across the Arctic, Greenland, Iceland and Spain — an event closely watched by panchanga scholars.

Sutak Rules: What to Do and Avoid Before and During the Eclipse

Sutak is the inauspicious window observed before the eclipse begins. For a solar eclipse, Sutak is traditionally observed from sunrise (or about 12 hours beforehand when the eclipse is visible) until the eclipse ends. During Sutak, cooked food kept exposed is considered to lose its sattvic quality; many families prepare or cover food in advance and sprinkle it with tulsi leaves or durva as a protective measure.

During the eclipse itself, avoid eating, drinking, travel, and starting new ventures. Pregnant women are traditionally advised to remain indoors in a calm space. At the moment of full eclipse, chant the Surya mantra "Om Suryaya Namah", perform jaap of Gayatri Mantra, and offer water (Arghya) to the Sun once it releases. After the eclipse concludes, bathe, change clothes, and resume normal activity — many families then perform a simple charity (dan) of wheat, jaggery, or cloth.

Eclipse Effects by House from Your Moon Sign

The February eclipse in Aquarius and the August eclipse in Leo each fall in a particular house from your Moon sign, coloring that life department. For example, for Aries Moon the August Leo eclipse falls in your 5th house — a strong window for re-evaluating romance, speculation and children’s matters; for Taurus Moon it falls in the 4th (home and mother), grounding family decisions.

For Gemini Moon the August eclipse in your 3rd strengthens courage and communication; for Cancer Moon it lands in the 2nd (family wealth and speech); for Leo Moon it sits on your 1st — a personal transformation point for identity and health; for Virgo Moon it falls in the 12th, favouring rest and spiritual practice; for Libra Moon in the 11th, reshaping social goals; for Scorpio Moon in the 10th, testing career decisions; for Sagittarius Moon in the 9th, deepening dharma and learning; for Capricorn Moon in the 8th, favouring research and caution; for Aquarius Moon in the 7th, recalibrating partnerships; and for Pisces Moon in the 6th, resolving disputes through discipline.

The February Kumbha eclipse mirrors this sequence from the opposite sign. These are directional indications; how they land depends on your natal Saturn, Rahu-Ketu axis and running Dashas. For eclipse-specific guidance on your own chart, book a consultation.

Remedies for Eclipse Stress and Grahan Dosha

The most effective eclipse remedies are purely sattvic: complete the eclipse silence with Gayatri or Surya jaap; keep a vessel of Ganga water or fresh water in the worship room during the eclipse and use it thereafter; donate wheat, gud (jaggery), and copper items after the eclipse; and avoid watching the eclipse with the naked eye — use proper solar filters, as eye safety matters as much as ritual.

If an eclipse falls on a sensitive house in your chart and creates recurring stress, our acharyas recommend a Navagraha Shanti puja or a Surya mantra regimen calibrated to your chart. To plan such a remedy, speak with our team for proper vidhi-basis guidance.
